Being named the “Golf Capital of Tennessee” was not a case of local officials looking for a catchy moniker. The title is well deserved and there are 10 major reasons, all of them well designed and maintained golf courses that cater to handicaps large and small. In Crossville and Cumberland County, community leaders have supported the theatre and the arts for over 50 years. This leadership and the citizens of our community created an imaginative and positive atmosphere for creative arts which led to the development of a rural community theatre in 1965. The Cumberland County Playhouse was established. Today over 145,000 visitors see world-class musicals, dramas, comedies and concerts at the legendary Cumberland County Playhouse. The Palace Theatre, built in 1938, and restored in 1996, is a downtown community auditorium hosting concerts, like the Big South Opry, community meetings and plays.
Over 28,000 visitors enjoyed local events in 2009. Crossville and Cumberland County enjoy concerts produced by an active Community Band and the Children of Crossville Chamber Orchestra. The Blue Ribbon Award winning Cumberland County Fair offers family fun for everyone. With over nine festivals, there is always a treasure chest full of live entertainment events for all ages.
